Comparisons are meaningful only when the statistics use the same definitions and time windows. Check whether figures are per match or totals, whether cup matches are included, and whether a source separates home and away performance. A team that played more matches can lead a total-count table without having a higher per-match rate.
Use a consistent source where possible, record the date of the data, and note missing matches or changed competition formats. Statistics are evidence to examine, not proof of a future result.
